Andrew Walls, a senior Sport Management major from Houston, was selected by the Major League Baseball's Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to attend the 2021 SABR Virtual Analytics Conference. The Virtual Analytics Conference consists of research presentations and guest speakers from the baseball analytics community. Conference events also include a career development session and an opportunity to interview each of the 30 MLB teams.
With the MLB scholarship Walls received for the event, he has an opportunity to be trained on baseball-related data sets and Structured Query Language. Additionally, he will gain access to the Rapsodo certified course, which provides certification on analyzing baseball and softball batting and pitching data.
Walls said he looks forward to learning about analytics and receiving additional education on a topic he finds intriguing. "I understand how selective something like this is, so it is important," said Walls, a veteran of the United States Army. "I'm not familiar with baseball, but it's still sports as far as business goes." In the future, Walls would like to become a General Manager of a sports team and is preparing himself to take all of the paths to get there.
The single father of two credits 海角乱伦专区 for providing him with internship opportunities that will help propel his career. "Every opportunity I've had in sports has come because of 海角乱伦专区," said Walls. He has served as a Student Assistant with 海角乱伦专区's Football Team and co-hosted radio shows with 海角乱伦专区 faculty member Dr. J. Kenyatta Cavil and Sports Broadcaster Ralph Cooper at KCOH-Radio. Walls currently serves as a Compliance Intern with Rice University's Department of Athletics and is a General Manager of a semi-professional sports team.
